Knowledge Base: group hosts
With great power comes great responsibility
When approving a new group, we place a lot of emphasis on hosts needing plenty of experience in the RedBubble community and expertise on how to use the site. (It's uncommon that we accept a new group if the hosts have been on RedBubble for less than 3 months) This is because, when you become a host, you also become a support person for your members and a representative of the RedBubble community.
Here are the main responsibilities that come with the job:
Be a great example of how to participate on RedBubble and interact with others. As a host, people look up to you as a leader, and an example of how to behave. We expect all hosts to lead by setting a good example and encouraging others to do the same.
Be active in your group and encourage participation. This assures your group members that they have your support and leadership. We encourage hosting in small teams; many hands make light work.
Make decisions about what type of work to have (and not have) in the group gallery. You might also choose to enforce upload limits, or set all new works to moderated.
Use group messages to communicate with your members about matters relevant to the group theme. Excessive or irrelevant group news can be reported as SPAM by members so please please please ensure that you only use it for important group related information.
We ask all hosts to visit the Friends of RedBubble forum regularly to keep up to date with important changes and information. This is also a great first stop for support or advice.
Group hosts who misuse their host powers or set a bad example in the wider community, may have their host status revoked or their group may be closed at the discretion of RedBubble.
On the whole, being a group host is a great experience. You will get to learn new skills, meet lots of people with similar tastes and interests and nurture a community you can be proud of. Hosts are a generous and helpful bunch, so there is always lots of support for new hosts or people facing a new challenge.
